It is alleged that the Bible is the word of an all-powerful, all-wise, all-loving, unchanging god.  The Bible supposedly records direct actions by this god and also actions this god commands others to take on his behalf.  As you read the following passages, decide for yourself: If this god really exists, does he deserve our admiration and worship?

"Properly read, the Bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived."

GOD CREATES EVIL

7   The One forming light and creating darkness, Causing well-being and creating calamity; I am the LORD who does all these.  (NASB)

THE BIBLE & SLAVERY

Exodus 21:2-11  (God condones slavery.)

2   "If you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve for six years; but on the seventh he shall go out as a free man without payment.

3   If he comes alone, he shall go out alone; if he is the husband of a wife, then his wife shall go out with him.

4   If his master gives him a wife, and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall belong to her master, and he shall go out alone.

5   But if the slave plainly says, ‘I love my master, my wife and my children; I will not go out as a free man,'

6   then his master shall bring him to God, then he shall bring him to the door or the doorpost.  And his master shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall serve him permanently.

7   If a man sells his daughter as a female slave, she is not to go free as the male slaves do.

8   If she is displeasing in the eyes of her master who designated her for himself, then he shall let her be redeemed.  He does not have authority to sell her to a foreign people because of his unfairness to her.

9   If he designates her for his son, he shall deal with her according to the custom of daughters.

10   If he takes to himself another woman, he may not reduce her food, her clothing, or her conjugal rights.

11   If he will not do these three things for her, then she shall go out for nothing, without payment of money."  (NASB)

Exodus 21:20-21  (God says that you may beat a slave to death, so long as he or she doesn't die immediately.)

20   "If a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod and he dies at his hand, he shall be punished.

21   If, however, he survives a day or two, no vengeance shall be taken; for he is his property."  (NASB)

Leviticus 25:44  (God says that Israelites may buy slaves from the nations around them.)

44   "As for your male and female slaves whom you may have - you may acquire male and female slaves from the pagan nations that are around you."  (NASB)

Genesis 3:16   (God creates painful childbirth.)

16   To the woman He said, "I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children;..."  (NASB)

Genesis 3:16   (God makes wives subservient to their husbands)

16   "...Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you."  (NASB)

Exodus 21:7   (God says that if you sell your daughter as a slave, she shall not go free.)

7   "If a man sells his daughter as a female slave, she is not to go free as the male slaves do."  (NASB)

Exodus 22:18  (See also: Leviticus 20:27)  (God says to kill "witches.")

18   "You shall not allow a sorceress to live."  (NASB)

Leviticus 12:2-5   (God says that a woman who gives birth to a female child will be "unclean" twice as long as she would be if she had given birth to a male child.)

2   "Speak to the sons of Israel, saying: ‘When a woman gives birth and bears a male child, then she shall be unclean for seven days, as in the days of her menstruation she shall be unclean.

3   On the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.

4   Then she shall remain in the blood of her purification for thirty-three days; she shall not touch any consecrated thing, nor enter the sanctuary until the days of her purification are completed.

5   But if she bears a female child, then she shall be unclean for two weeks, as in her menstruation; and she shall remain in the blood of her purification for sixty-six days.' "  (NASB)

Leviticus 20:27  (See also: Exodus 22:18)  (God says to kill "wizards" and "witches.")

27   "Now a man or a woman who is a medium or a spiritist shall surely be put to death.  They shall be stoned with stones, their bloodguiltiness is upon them."  (NASB)

Numbers 31:6-18   (Moses, acting as God's agent, orders war, then massacre of captive boys and non-virgin women, and rape of virgin girls.)

6   Moses sent them, a thousand from each tribe, to the war...

7   So they made war against Midian, just as the LORD had commanded Moses, and they killed every male....

9   The sons of Israel captured the women of Midian and their little ones; and all their cattle and all their flocks and all their goods they plundered.

10   Then they burned all their cities where they lived and all their camps with fire....

12   They brought the captives and the prey and the spoil to Moses...

15   And Moses said to them, "Have you spared all the women? ...

17   Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man intimately.

18   But all the girls who have not known man intimately, spare for yourselves."  (NASB)

Deuteronomy 22:13-21  (God says to kill non-virgin brides.)

13   "If any man takes a wife and goes in to her and then turns against her,

14   and charges her with shameful deeds and publicly defames her, and says, ‘I took this woman, but when I came near her, I did not find her a virgin,'

15   then the girl's father and her mother shall take and bring out the evidence of the girl's virginity to the elders of the city at the gate.

16   The girl's father shall say to the elders, ‘I gave my daughter to this man for a wife, but he turned against her;

17   and behold, he has charged her with shameful deeds, saying, "I did not find your daughter a virgin."  But this is the evidence of my daughter's virginity.'  And they shall spread the garment before the elders of the city.

18   So the elders of that city shall take the man and chastise him,

19   and they shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give it to the girl's father, because he publicly defamed a virgin of Israel.  And she shall remain his wife; he cannot divorce her all his days.

20   But if this charge is true, that the girl was not found a virgin,

21   then they shall bring out the girl to the doorway of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death because she has committed an act of folly in Israel by playing the harlot in her father's house; thus you shall purge the evil from among you."  (NASB)

1 Corinthians 11:7-10   (The Bible says women are second class to men.)

7   For a man ought not to have his head covered, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.

8   For man does not originate from woman, but woman from man;

9   for indeed man was not created for the woman's sake, but woman for the man's sake.

10   Therefore the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.  (NASB)

1 Corinthians 14:34-35  (The Bible says women should keep silent in church.)

34   The women are to keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but are to subject themselves, just as the Law also says.

35   If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is improper for a woman to speak in church.  (NASB)

Ephesians 5:22-24   (The Bible says that wives should be subject to their husbands.)

22   Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

23   For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body.

24   But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.  (NASB)

1 Timothy 2:11-14   (The Bible says women should be submissive to men.)

11   A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.

12   But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.

13   For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve.

14   And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.  (NASB)

Titus 2:4   (The Bible says women should be subject to their husbands.)

4   ...the young women...

5   ... being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.  (NASB)

THE BIBLE & CHILDREN

Exodus 4:24-26   (Circumcise your son or God may kill him.)

24   Now it came about at the lodging place on the way that the LORD met him and sought to put him to death.

25   Then Zipporah took a flint and cut off her son's foreskin and threw it at Moses' feet, and she said, "You are indeed a bridegroom of blood to me."

26   So He let him alone.  At that time she said, "You are a bridegroom of blood" - because of the circumcision.  (NASB)

Exodus 21:17  (God says to kill anyone who curses his father or mother.)

17   "He who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death."  (NASB)

Deuteronomy 21:18-21  (God says to kill rebellious sons.)

18   "If any man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father or his mother, and when they chastise him, he will not even listen to them,

19   then his father and mother shall seize him, and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gateway of his hometown.

20   They shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey us, he is a glutton and a drunkard.'

21   Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death; so you shall remove the evil from your midst, and all Israel will hear of it and fear."  (NASB)

2 Kings 2:23-24   (God sends two bears to attack 42 children who tease a prophet for being bald.)

23   Then he [the prophet Elisha] went up from there to Bethel; and as he was going up by the way, young lads came out from the city and mocked him and said to him, "Go up, you baldhead; go up, you baldhead!"

24   When he looked behind him and saw them, he cursed them in the name of the LORD.  Then two female bears came out of the woods and tore up forty-two lads of their number.  (NASB)

THE BIBLE & GAY PEOPLE

Leviticus 18:22   (God is opposed to male homosexuality.)

22   "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."  (NASB)

Leviticus 20:13   (God says to kill gay men.)

13   "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death.  Their bloodguiltiness is upon them."  (NASB)

Romans 1:24-27   (God is opposed to homosexuality.)

24   Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.

25   For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever.  Amen.

26   For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural,

27   and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.  (NASB)

1 Corinthians 6:9   (Gays can't inherit the kingdom of God.)

9   Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?  Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,

10   nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.  (NASB)

GOD SAYS TO KILL A MAN AND WOMAN IF THEY HAVE SEX AND THE WOMAN IS MARRIED OR ENGAGED TO ANOTHER MAN

Deuteronomy 22:22

22   "If a man is found lying with a married woman, then both of them shall die, the man who lay with the woman, and the woman; thus you shall purge the evil from Israel."  (NASB)

Deuteronomy 22:23-24

23   "If there is a girl who is a virgin engaged to a man, and another man finds her in the city and lies with her,

24   then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city and you shall stone them to death; the girl, because she did not cry out in the city, and the man, because he has violated his neighbor's wife.  Thus you shall purge the evil from among you."  (NASB)

GOD SHUNS CRIPPLED PEOPLE

Leviticus 21:16-21

16   Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

17   "Speak to Aaron, saying, ‘No man of your offspring throughout their generations who has a defect shall approach to offer the food of his God.

18   For no one who has a defect shall approach: a blind man, or a lame man, or he who has a disfigured face, or any deformed limb,

19   or a man who has a broken foot or broken hand,

20   or a hunchback or a dwarf, or one who has a defect in his eye or eczema or scabs or crushed testicles.

21   No man among the descendants of Aaron the priest who has a defect is to come near to offer the LORD'S offerings by fire; since he has a defect, he shall not come near to offer the food of his God.' "  (NASB)

Deuteronomy 23:1

1   "No one who is emasculated or has his male organ cut off shall enter the assembly of the LORD."  (NASB)

THE BIBLE & "FAMILY VALUES"

Matthew 10:34-37  (See also: Luke 12:51-53)  (Jesus admits he is not a peacemaker but is a home wrecker.)

34   "Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

35   For I came to SET A MAN AGAINST HIS FATHER, AND A DAUGHTER AGAINST HER MOTHER, AND A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW AGAINST HER MOTHER-IN-LAW;

36   and A MAN'S ENEMIES WILL BE THE MEMBERS OF HIS HOUSEHOLD.

37   He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me."  (NASB)

Luke 12:51-53  (See also: Matthew 10:34-37)  (Jesus admits he is not a peacemaker but is a home wrecker.)

51   "Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division;

52   for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three.

53   They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."  (NASB)

Luke 14:26   (Jesus says that you must hate your family and yourself to follow him.)

26   "If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple."  (NASB)

GOD IS UNAMERICAN:

NO FREEDOM OF SPEECH OR RELIGION

Exodus 22:20  (God does not allow freedom of religion.)

20   "He who sacrifices to any god, other than to the LORD alone, shall be utterly destroyed."  (NASB)

Exodus 35:2  (See also: Numbers 15:32-36)  (God says to kill people who work on the Sabbath day.)

2   "For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day you shall have a holy day, a sabbath of complete rest to the LORD; whoever does any work on it shall be put to death."  (NASB)

Leviticus 24:13-16, 23  (God says to kill people who curse or blaspheme.)

13   Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

14   "Bring the one who has cursed outside the camp, and let all who heard him lay their hands on his head; then let all the congregation stone him.

15   You shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘If anyone curses his God, then he will bear his sin.

16   Moreover, the one who blasphemes the name of the LORD shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall certainly stone him.  The alien as well as the native, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death.' "

23   Then Moses spoke to the sons of Israel, and they brought the one who had cursed outside the camp and stoned him with stones.  Thus the sons of Israel did, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.  (NASB)

Numbers 15:32-36  (See also: Exodus 35:2)  (God says to kill people who work on the Sabbath day.)

32   Now while the sons of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering wood on the sabbath day.

33   Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation;

34   and they put him in custody because it had not been declared what should be done to him.

35   Then the LORD said to Moses, "The man shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp."

36   So all the congregation brought him outside the camp and stoned him to death with stones, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.  (NASB)

Deuteronomy 13:1-10  (See also: Deuteronomy 17:2-7)  (God says to kill anyone who leads people away from him.)

1   "If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder,

2   and the sign or the wonder comes true, concerning which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let us go after other gods (whom you have not known) and let us serve them,'

3   you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams; for the LORD your God is testing you to find out if you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

4   You shall follow the LORD your God and fear Him; and you shall keep His commandments, listen to His voice, serve Him, and cling to Him.

5   But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has counseled rebellion against the LORD your God who brought you from the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery, to seduce you from the way in which the LORD your God commanded you to walk.  So you shall purge the evil from among you.

6   If your brother, your mother's son, or your son or daughter, or the wife you cherish, or your friend who is as your own soul, entice you secretly, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods' (whom neither you nor your fathers have known,

7   of the gods of the peoples who are around you, near you or far from you, from one end of the earth to the other end),

8   you shall not yield to him or listen to him; and your eye shall not pity him, nor shall you spare or conceal him.

9   But you shall surely kill him; your hand shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.

10   So you shall stone him to death because he has sought to seduce you from the LORD your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.  (NASB)

Deuteronomy 17:2-7  (See also: Deuteronomy 13:1-10)  (God says to kill anyone who worships other gods.)

2   "If there is found in your midst, in any of your towns, which the LORD your God is giving you, a man or a woman who does what is evil in the sight of the LORD your God, by transgressing His covenant,

3   and has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or the sun or the moon or any of the heavenly host, which I have not commanded,

4   and if it is told you and you have heard of it, then you shall inquire thoroughly.  Behold, if it is true and the thing certain that this detestable thing has been done in Israel,

5   then you shall bring out that man or that woman who has done this evil deed to your gates, that is, the man or the woman, and you shall stone them to death.

6   On the evidence of two witnesses or three witnesses, he who is to die shall be put to death; he shall not be put to death on the evidence of one witness.

7   The hand of the witnesses shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people.  So you shall purge the evil from your midst."  (NASB)

GOD IS UNAMERICAN: HE SUPPORTS

THE DIVINE RIGHT OF KINGS

The Judeo-Christian Bible supports the idea that all government rulers are the will of a god.  This was the justification for the Divine Right of Kings.  Thus, the 1776 American Revolution against King George III of England violated the following Biblical passages:

Daniel 2:20-21

20   Daniel said, "Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever, For wisdom and power belong to Him.

21   It is He who changes the times and the epochs; He removes kings and establishes kings..."  (NASB)

1 Peter 2:13-14

13   Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority,

14   or to governors as sent by him...  (NASB)

Romans 13:1-2

1   Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities.  For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.

2   Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.  (NASB)

Titus 3:1

1   Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient...  (NASB)

Hebrews 13:17

17   Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account.  (NASB)

GOD IS UNJUST:  HE PUNISHES OFFSPRING WHO HAVE COMMITTED NO CRIME

Deuteronomy 23:2  (God says a person born out of wedlock, and his descendants for ten generations, cannot be part of "the assembly of the LORD.")

2   "No one of illegitimate birth shall enter the assembly of the LORD; none of his descendants, even to the tenth generation, shall enter the assembly of the LORD."  (NASB)

GOD'S DIETARY & FASHION REQUIREMENTS

Leviticus 11:9-12  (See also: Deuteronomy 14:9-10)  (God says you cannot eat shrimp.)

9   "These you may eat, whatever is in the water: all that have fins and scales, those in the water, in the seas or in the rivers, you may eat.

10   But whatever is in the seas and in the rivers that does not have fins and scales among all the teeming life of the water, and among all the living creatures that are in the water, they are detestable things to you,

11   and they shall be abhorrent to you; you may not eat of their flesh, and their carcasses you shall detest.

12   Whatever in the water does not have fins and scales is abhorrent to you."  (NASB)

Leviticus 19:19  (God says you can't wear clothing of two different types of fabric.)

19   "You are to keep My statutes.  You shall not breed together two kinds of your cattle; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor wear a garment upon you of two kinds of material mixed together."  (NASB)

Deuteronomy 14:9-10  (See also: Leviticus 11:9-12)  (God says you cannot eat shrimp.)

9   "These you may eat of all that are in water: anything that has fins and scales you may eat,

10   but anything that does not have fins and scales you shall not eat; it is unclean for you."  (NASB)

SHOULD WE FOLLOW JESUS?

Matthew 19:12  (Jesus says that men should castrate themselves for God.)

12   "For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother's womb; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are also eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven.  He who is able to accept this, let him accept it."  (NASB)

Mark 16:17-18   (Jesus says that Christians will be able to cast out demons, speak in tongues, drink poison without being harmed, and do faith healing.  This is either a lie or there are no true Christians.)

17   "These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues;

18   they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."  (NASB)

John 14:12-13   (Jesus says that true Christians will be able to perform works greater than Jesus did.  This is either a lie or there are no true Christians.)

12   "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.

13   Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son."  (NASB)

CAN PEOPLE WITH MONEY BE CHRISTIANS?

(3 versions of the same story)

Matthew 19:20-21

20   The young man said to Him, "All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?"

21   Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."  (NASB)

Mark 10:20-21

20   And he said to Him, "Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth up."

21   Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, "One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."  (NASB)

Luke 18:21-22

21   And he said, "All these things I have kept from my youth."

22   When Jesus heard this, He said to him, "One thing you still lack; sell all that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."  (NASB)

EXODUS & THE TEN PLAGUES OF EGYPT:

GOD HARDENS PHAROAH'S HEART SO GOD CAN "JUSTIFY" TORTURING THE EGYPTIAN PEOPLE

(emphasis, in italics, added)

Exodus 4:21   (Before the Plagues start.)

21   The LORD said to Moses, "When you go back to Egypt see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders which I have put in your power; but I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go."  (NASB)

Exodus 7:3-4   (Before the Plagues start.)

3   "But I will harden Pharaoh's heart that I may multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt.

4   When Pharaoh does not listen to you, then I will lay My hand on Egypt and bring out My hosts, My people the sons of Israel, from the land of Egypt by great judgments."  (NASB)

Exodus 9:12   (After the Plague of Boils)

12   And the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not listen to them, just as the LORD had spoken to Moses.  (NASB)

Exodus 10:1-2   (Before the Plague of Locusts)

1   Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may perform these signs of Mine among them,

2   and that you may tell in the hearing of your son, and of your grandson, how I made a mockery of the Egyptians and how I performed My signs among them, that you may know that I am the LORD."  (NASB)

Exodus 10:16-20   (After the Plague of Locusts)

16   Then Pharaoh hurriedly called for Moses and Aaron, and he said, "I have sinned against the LORD your God and against you.

17   Now therefore, please forgive my sin only this once, and make supplication to the LORD your God, that He would only remove this death from me."

18   He went out from Pharaoh and made supplication to the LORD.

19   So the LORD shifted the wind to a very strong west wind which took up the locusts and drove them into the Red Sea; not one locust was left in all the territory of Egypt.

Exodus 11:9-10   (Before the final Plague, the Death of the First Born)

9   Then the LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh will not listen to you, so that My wonders will be multiplied in the land of Egypt."

10   Moses and Aaron performed all these wonders before Pharaoh; yet the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the sons of Israel go out of his land.  (NASB)

Exodus 14:1-31   (As the Israelites were leaving Egypt)

1   Now the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

2   "Tell the sons of Israel to turn back and camp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea; you shall camp in front of Baal-zephon, opposite it, by the sea.

3   For Pharaoh will say of the sons of Israel, ‘They are wandering aimlessly in the land; the wilderness has shut them in.'

4   Thus I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will chase after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD."  And they did so.

5   When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his servants had a change of heart toward the people, and they said, "What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?"

6   So he made his chariot ready and took his people with him;

7   and he took six hundred select chariots, and all the other chariots of Egypt with officers over all of them.

8   The LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and he chased after the sons of Israel as the sons of Israel were going out boldly.

15   Then the LORD said to Moses, "Why are you crying out to Me?  Tell the sons of Israel to go forward.

16   As for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, and the sons of Israel shall go through the midst of the sea on dry land.

17   As for Me, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen.

18   Then the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD, when I am honored through Pharaoh, through his chariots and his horsemen."

23   Then the Egyptians took up the pursuit, and all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots and his horsemen went in after them into the midst of the sea.

26   Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may come back over the Egyptians, over their chariots and their horsemen."

28   The waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even Pharaoh's entire army that had gone into the sea after them; not even one of them remained.

31   When Israel saw the great power which the LORD had used against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD and in His servant Moses.  (NASB)
